unfortunately if you import any car pre 1998 you have a hell of a time getting it registered !

it's around 1996, and its due to frontal impact standards. its all about importing "safer cars" with better occupant protection like airbags and crupple zones. all cars imported must meet these standards or they can not be registered. I believe there are some exclusions allowed, but you get the idea.
