Just a little update - I received a mail from Zac this week. The engine has been running and is very rich (he fouled 3 sets of plugs). Zac is going to get it on a dyno to setup the fuel map.

In the US, there doesn't seem to be much point -- we can put the entire KA24 in our 1200s. But for states limited to 2-liters, this sounds like a fascinating idea.

I wonder how the KA 16-valve head compares to the vintage L16 FIA head?

I reckon it would flow better than the FIA with a bit of work on the exhaust side. The inlets wouldnt take much work at all to be better.

Ohhh, I see ka24e NOT ka24de.

That distinction seems a bit blurry in this thread and the discussion on Ozdat (as does the type of block).

The ka24e head on lz20 (NOT l20b) block has been done here in the U.S., notably by the race engine builder Rebello.

I'm not certain, but I think they're quoting ~225hp. Their motors cost around ~$5k+, which is not a great deal considering some shop in the South East USA charges $12k for their A-Series race engines.
