I've got these mags for my car which look sweet, except they hang a bit wide. I might just get away with it, but they are on the tyre are on the border of hanging out of the gaurds. Besides, when the suspension does some serious work, it starts making noises on the front...

So rather than get a sticker for something so stupid as that (and unless someone is handing out free mags), I'm thinking about flaring my gaurds a bit - makes it look good too, provided it isn't overdone. I prefer not to go the bolt on route.

I've see it done before, where some one cut the gaurds out of another car, and welded them on, after removing the original ones. Is this the only method? Has anybody here done it? I'm assuming this is the easiest way. If it is, what car should I look out for to cut the flares off?

thanx guys
Darren

This has been discussed in the "long ago" section

I've been looking at Australian cars ever since to find one, but with the moderm integrated guard/front bumper combinations, there aren't any local ones I've recognised.

The solution was to use a Chrysler OMNI, or something unusual (and specific to the US).

previous discussion - only 2 years ago

A bit of research on the omni

thanks dattodude.
(I did a quick search on the forum before I posted this, but I didn't come up with anything)

Anyone else who has used a different type of car (preferrably one easy to get hold of in Australia)???

If you're going to the effort of welding on flares, then have you considered panel beating a flare into the guard????

I did it to mine, got about and extra inch wider and fits my 15's (195's)with no rubbing issues (yes the car is low)

And it looks completely standard.....

hey andos, how did ya do it? or is that a long story?
I've thought about it, but to me it seems easier to weld new ones in. I thought that way it would be easier to get them even.
Any help... much appreciated.

My Panel Beater simply flared my front guards to accomodate the bigger wheels. I'll be going back to him soon when I get the 15" wheels. They will need anothe rmassage :)
