I love this model.
I had a tray version with a 5 speed and a12 and gave it away to someone who was gonna restore it. I kept the 5 speed for my kb10 which I later sold to a guy who came to pick it up from sydney, he was a 1k enthusiast who couldnt wait to get it off my hands (if you are on this site give us a pm on its whereabouts ;) but this ute would make a great project with big wheel (like the chev ute in another post) and lowered on its tush.

I was going to add some negative comments, about how I don't like early 60s styling from Datsun. But after seeing the Ute..I've changed my mind. It would be cool to buy up, give it a lick of paint, and swap in a Nissan V8 And fit it up with some nice brakes and a decent diff.

I know this would make it retrotech..not old school, but that's my opinion on this fine piece of Datsun history.

It could be a very cool project.

Chris

I'm more worried about us all agreeing on the correct form of the category ... I mean, is it going to be oldschool or Old Skool? Doesn't oldschool refer to "I hated my old school," Or is it quite alright to say oldschool unless you are young and hip and know how to use the rest of the pretentious import lingo?

matbighat, I propose that for future reference "retro-tech" styled cars (EFI, turbo's, Computers) be referred to as "Old Skool".

And "old-tech" (Big compression, Big cams, carbs) be referred to as "Old School".

Or is that just going to confuse things further ? :)

James.

retro tech is just improving the mechanics of the classic car to modern technology but without making it tacky.
Dattodude I agree with you but a standard sr20 or ca20 on straight gas with a 4 speed auto would be fine too! ;) make it retro and ecological more than any old machinery can do and no pollution gear to clog up the engine bay!.. I hate pollution gear! but love the economy of gas too.
As for rust on the tailgate thats nothing!!!! even a 90s car get rust staining on tailgates which is 99 percent of the time nothing to do with the structure or the tailgate.
Trust me its a cheap car to start with.
even a stock a15 would be nice.

This old 320 ute is kool. We had one (a 1964) and the style was called "Sport" as opposed to the regular separate cab & bed model. The Sport model was quite rare even in its day.

It had a 4-speed column shift!

I used to have one of these.......but it was a traytop with drop sides.
Got it for free and had intentions of doing it up one day.
Unfortunatly I bought the racecar and didn't have the room to store it..........so off to PickaPart it went.
The guy transporting it crushed the roof with his boom putting it on the flat bed though.........sad thing
Porr old girl.........miss her
