Hello everyone, damn nice to see so many people with a common interest, a common interest, and a damn good one at that!
anyway im from Palmerston Nth Nz, i own a 1200 1972 4dr sedan, rough but i dont care the slightest bit, ive ripped most of the interior out, im not a fan i tell you, rough to me looks better for some reason, rugged is cool.
anyway ive got a couple problems, well several which are quite annoying, first up for some god damned reason a couple weeks back i was turning the thing over and now the ignition has become tight as hell, to turn it over, as in actually turn the key to start, i damn near have to use two hands and then once the starter motor kicks in and the car fires up, the key is stuck so tight in the start possy that the atsrter motor stays on with its lovely noise and you just know its having a good feed on the flywheel, have to flick it back real fast with all my might, any suggestions?
actually thats my main pissing me off point at the moment, the other being how the first couple times she fires up she just dies if no matter what you do, but after the 2nd or 3rd she idles pretty well.
its an A15 with a 4speed, does that standard A12 gearbox fit the A15 engine?
does anyone know (in NZ) where i can get an A15 carb + filter, anyone in NZ know where i can get a new set of rubbers (doors, boot) anyone know where i can get a new front drivers door or the internal locking objects for the drivers door?
thats about it for the meantime..im sure i will think of more, but if you could please please answer any of these quiestions id be truely thankful,
thanks in advance and nice to see everyone.

Well, with your ignition it sounds as though your key or barrel may be worn, take it to a locksmith and get a new one cut, try and get the key number so they can make a new one not a copy of the worn. Rubbers are available from Rare Spares CHCH. New drivers doors are not available in NZ only guards, bonnets and aprons.

it happened while i was still useing the original key, it just happened all of a sudden, one time it was easy as pie, the next hard as ice, and the first time it become hard i was using the old key and it ####ing snapped due to it being so hard, then i got a new key cut and it is still as hard as ice, its as if the ignition part has shifted around clockwise somehow because the position where start is and where the key are when in start are very much different (the key has to go further round than the start marking) so what dis you reckon it would be? How much would it cost for a full set of rubbers? and re the door i was meaning a second hand door from someone not actually a brand spanking new door, just one thats in good shape, and an apron is what?

Well I think you need another barrel or take your to a locksmith, it aint that expensive, for the rubbers go to rarespares try Trademe for S/H parts, an apron is the steel panel below the grill where a front spoiler would go

Just for fun, get some graphite keylock lubricant from the auto parts store. It resolves a lot of "can't turn the key" problems. Btw, my car has the key number written on the inside glovebox door (where the coffee cup goes). Quote: its an A15 with a 4speed, does that standard A12 gearbox fit the A15 engine? Yes, it fits but yer likely to have it break. It's not really strong enough for an A15 if you baby it, the trans might last. Quote: the first couple times she fires up she just dies if no matter what you do, but after the 2nd or 3rd she idles pretty well. Probably the auto choke isn't closing far enough. Take the air cleaner lid off and verify (with cold engine) that the choke butterfly valve is closing 100% of the way. If it is you might have a vacuum leak, check all the hose ends to see if any are cracked.

so if the engines mounted correctly, the A12 g/box will use the same xmembers and just bolt straight up to the A15 engine? also where are the cast numbers representative to the engine found on the A12 / A15 ?
