If I put an A14 head and manifold on an A12, what would I have to do? eg regarding compression...

Yes, it was the "in" thing here a few years ago. There is little or no modifications required from memory.

if you put a a14 head on an early a12 block you need drill an oil feed passage (2 holes) in the head for rocker arms can be done with hand drill and steady hand. just look at a 1200 head and gasket to line up the hole

might sound like a stupid question but what is the advantage of putting an a14 head on an a12 except lowering compression for a turbo conversion or something

If you like to keep the engine between 5000-6000 rpm, the A14 head has the largest valves of any factory head (larger than the A12GX valves) and has the large oval ports.

Let me get this clear,
Having an A14 head on a a12 block wouldnt help better the take-off speed, but only top ends?
Another thing DD, which is the better option?.
Once one has the a14/a12 head swap, will it then be better to have an a14 g\box as well.

It has nothing to do with gearboxes.

What do you mean by 'take-off speed'?

Adding larger valves and a head with larger ports generally won't help low-speed horsepower. Raising the engine compression ratio will, but only a bit. The difference between 9.0:1 and 10.0:1 is generally only 3% difference in horespower. See Compression = horsepower

What I meant was,
How would one attain 0 to 100kph quicker?.

A mate of mine had an a14 bakkie, his g\box broke down, he then put in the 1200 g\box from his older ute and said that he noticed a drop in power on take-off.

What I'd like to know simply is,
having the 1200 std block with an a14 head, would it be better to put in an a14 box, or doesnt it really matter?

Excuse me for my ignorance, but this is the first 1200 I've owned, previously it was toyos, fords and mazdas, which I've owned and noticed that a g\box can make a drastic change in power.
