Im not having a cry or a winge, but what do you guys think.

I had my 1200 repainted 4 months ago. I did all the normal checks and chose a paintshop which came very recomended. The car was in the shop for 8 weeks, minimal work done when the owner informed me he was selling up, but my car would be done and it would be the last one they would do.

I left it there and picked it up the day the business was handed over to the new owners. Late evening. The painter said he would be re-openning because he had sold only due to a marrage breakup and any issues he would rectify no questions asked.

That was over 4 months ago and Im not happy with the finish on the car. It has severe ripplidge and minor dents. I was told it was goint to be floorless and no budget was ever set. It was a reasonably expensive job on a car which only needed minor, very minor work.

The guy in question said that yes it didnt come up to scratch and he would re-do it. Now he wont even return my calls or talk to me. He says he cant find a suitable factory unit to rent.

Should I bite the bullet and go somewhere else ???

i had 2 face the same sort of thing when i got extractors put on my ute. I got extractors put on which toak the shop 3 days(which is poor for starters, then for some unknwon reason with out me even knowing they decided 2 change the welsh plugs. This was all finally done, so i went 2 pick it up and drive it home. U wouldnt beleive it, half way home the car overheated and warped the head(my temp gauge wasnt workin at the time). The stupid idiots forgot 2 put coolant in. So i toak it back and u guessed it, the wankers wouldnt have anythin 2 do with it. They wouldnt even serve me when i went in 2 the reception bit.
They refused 2 do anything about it and I had 2 get a new head put on myself with my money. Several months later i was told that i could have went 2 consumer affairs about it. Maybe thats what u should do 2!!!
Good luck mate, hate 2 hear storys like that!

Stuff like this makes me sick. thats why i try do everything myself. I'm hoping to repaint my car soon. It works out a whole lot cheaper, if you have the room. that way if anything goes wrong, you only have yourself to blame.

tommy, why on earth are they draining your coolant to change the exhaust???
idiots...

I wouldn't put much confidence in Consumer Affairs. I recently had my ute shipped up to Brisbane, had it organised with CARMOVERS more than a month before it needed to be there. On their schedule, according to their logistics it was picked up 4 days before the day i had organised flights and accommodation to meet with people about the car in BRISBANE.

You guessed it, CARMOVERS delivered it 3 DAYS TOO LATE. They refused to talk to me about the delay and refused any compensation. Consumer Affairs NSW was called, they promised results...

They couldn't do anything because the company is registered in QLD. The QLD authority said that they completed the service (ie. delivered the car) so they couldn't do anything. The only thing i can do is go to court.

$481 wasted, plus it cost me $550 to get the car delivered - way too late.

If i had a solicitor, he'd be on the phone. Solicitors seem to carry the "oomff" required to get these things in motion. My budget doesn't quite stretch that far though.

I looked into it with the MTA (Motor Trades Association) and they said he has done what was required. Paint your car. There is no documentation stating the difference between a $500 or a $5000 paint job.

This and some of the interior is the only thing which has been done outside my shed. I wanted a paint job which reflects all the other $$$ I have spent on this car.

As hard as it is with work on cars you really need to cover your butt and have everything written down and quoted on. Its a pain but that way you are both covered.

I had a similar experience with my 'barn find' 66 MKI Austin Cooper S. The shop took 6 months to do the job, and ended up painting it a panel at a time. It came out 3 shades of green! Went back to complain and they said they would redo but I would have to pay for a new paint job. After a lot of arguing, I still have a three color paint job.

This is just another thing that has happened 2 a mate, He had a bit of a crash and decided 2 send the ute 2 sydney 2 get fixed. Whilst it was going 2 be in sydney he deided 2 get it panted that new SS green. The ute has now been in sydney for 11months and they cant find IT. They fear it has been sold on them with all the chassis numbers and engine numbers changed. So keep ur eye out for a datsun 1200 ute, recently pianted ss green. I think its either got an A15 or A14, cant remember. Um superlite mags and a nice interior.
Cheers fellas
