I have a problem with my car my dad called pinking. It (somewhere near the fan in the engine bay) rattles but only when I accelerate. This rattling noise gets worse as I put my foot harder. Is this something to do with timing etc? And how do I fix it? Any help???

That noise is the points your timing is out ,Do the timing and it will go away .I can't remember if it means it's to far advanced or to far retarded but I guarrente that is the noise.

Too far advanced. Does the engine run on after you switch it off? That's another symptom of being too far advanced.

As a rule of thumb, just set it at between it slowing down, and speeding up. There's a middle ground. A timing light is better.

It could be crap fuel, buy your fuel somewhere else for a couple of tankfuls.

In the US it is called "pinging", and is literally the rattle of death.

Just retard the distributor a couple of degrees, until the sound goes away. Retard means to turn it counter-clockwise. See Ignition Timing "Fine-tuning" section at the end.
