How much is a reconditioned GX head worth.
Reconditioned in that It has been acid dipped, valves and seats re-cut,guides replaced, rocker arm inserts fitted, new valve stem seals and spring tensions checked and springs replaced as necessary.
Any ideas ???????

Came off an A15 that was built by a Datsun specialist at Penrith. The engine was in a ute that had a cam and trick bottom end and this head on it. The young bloke that owned it put 2 x 45mm webers on it and killed it. I ended up with ute and put an A14 in it and sold it. I started to do up the A15, but found out that turbos and superchargers are more fun, so it has sat in my garage for about 3 months
And I really dont know what it is worth
It has double valve springs and very large oval ports and the valves are about twice the size as in an A12 head.
Should it have markings on it ?

Casting numbers on these heads sometimes help, but not all heads have them. The A15 head was derived from the GX series with the oval ports, & the revised manifold bolt pattern. A15's also had bigger valves than the others, so it's possible that it is simply a nicely rebuilt A15 head.

Don't get me wrong, these A15 heads are good value & provide a real boost in performance, but a genuine early [1200] or late [120Y] A12-GX head will command the better price, all things being equal.

Can you post a picture or two?

B120dat
At a guess, i'd say he likely flogged it to death.

The owner had huge jets and emulsion tubes in the webbers, big enough to run alcohol.
It would not have even idled It was that rich that it was washing the bores, no oil....no rings....lots of smoke......plus he said that he regularly revved it to 7000 rpm, but I dont know
Ill take some photos in the morning and stick them on here, Ill also see if there are any cast numbers

There maybe more A series stuff here in NZ, I dont know???? But I know that most people over here do give two shiits about A series stuff, its only people who have them that want A series stuff. 5speeds are now getting rear here and there are not many left and most of the wreckers dont wreck any after 95 now, cos of all the imports running around
