The basic idea is that any extra fumes vented from either the engine or fuel tank go through the carbon, to filter the air when the engine is not running.

On US B210s, Yes it goes to the fuel tank vapor return line (actually teed into it in the engine compartment with a valve). The 1200s (no cannister) have a three-way valve on the firewall, one goes the fuel vapor return line, another to the crankcase and the third to the air cleaner (B110). In other words when the engine is off the vapors are (theoretically) 'trapped' in the engine crankcase vicinity. But when the engine is running, the fumes are drawn into the air cleaner (carb).

The carbon cannister is a much better idea ecology-wise and doesn't hurt performance either.

Cool thanks mate do you know where the return lines goes onto the tank because on my tank I have 3 fittings one is fuel supply one has a orange line that goes to the seperator in the body and the other is a black line that goes to the seperator also should I just tee it to one off the last two lines I just mentioned?

My advice is go to the public library and look at a Haynes (or similar) manual for a 1980 or so Datsun of any sort. The S110 Haynes manual shows a "typical" configuration including a fuel check valve, the separator and all the hose connections.

I'm working on converting my A14 to a dual SU setup. Each carb has an overflow port that I'm assuming passes vapors or liquid fuel at times. I dont' htink my original carb was hooked up to anything so I'm trying to figure out how to plumb this up. Should I find a dual input carbon canister or tie them together and then to a canister? Do the carbon canisters have an output that goes back to the tank? My tank does have a 3rd line that I believe is a vapor return, but at this point it's not being used.

If anyone could direct me to a fairly low cost canister that woudl work I woudl appreciate it. I'm in the US.
