Has anyone ever heard of removing the front quarter windows and having a one piece glass cut and put in.
Would this work and would the arms on the winder have to be extended ?

yeah, but not in a 1200.
A glazier mate of mine did it in a toyota that he had, a crown from memory.
I dont recall me making any mods to the winder mechanism, but have a good look, and see if anything ill foul up.
The extra weiight, might put extra strain on the winder, but easy does it and it should work i think.

but why??? 1/4 windows are fantastic things for letting in air without spoiling your hair, or flicking ash out of. i would bring them back on new cars not lose them on old ones

Why? Firstly, to get rid of the loud wind noise at highway speeds. But most importantly it would look better.

The first thing you would have to do is weld in a channel for the glass to slide in and extend the channel that the glass sits in to give support, not an easy thing to do

Well. Ive started to do this mod. The window channel on the inside of the 1/4 window fits on the outside with the top cut off. Ive put VC commodore mirrors in where the 1/4 window was and joined up the channell to it, the winder arms are long enough and Ive made a cardboard pattern for the window, now I have to find someone to cut the glass. If/when its finished Ill put some photos of it on this site
Would you beleive a commodore wethershield cut down also fits

I don't believe it! You can use plexiglas, it can be heated and curved to shape.
