Stanza Conversion Problem

Gday Thrillseekers,
I am half way through converting my standard 1200 drum front end to '82 Stanza struts, I have hit a problem.

I've fitted the stanza lower control arm, and strut, and I've conected the tie-rods, However neither the Stanza or standard 1200 castor rods will fit..
I've searched through forums, some people are using 120Y castor rods, is this my only option? if so what year 120Y need.

Thanks in advance for you help.

(some further info: The stanza castor rods seem about 1 inch too long, and the standard 1200 castor rods have the wrong bolt spacing)

One further query for anyone who's done this conversion before. I have swapped the struts from left to right, so the caliper is facing the front edge of the disc. Is this what other people have done too ?

I believe that the calipers foul if they are in the normal position (ie: caliper at rear edge of the disc)

Anyone?

the 120y castors you need are from the later model 120y's.. sorry im not sure of what year though.... the ones with the bigger 4 bolt ball joint... you will know as soon as you see them...

i have my calipers toward the rear of the car... they are fine... where did you suspect they would foul?

Ange, Thanks for the info.

I read on another website that the struts have to be swapped left to right (I'm gullable). I might switch them back to the normal way while the car is still up on stands. With the calipers to the front I would need new (longer) rubber brake lines made up.

A few years ago I fitted 200B struts to a 1600, to make them fit I had to swap them left to right (calipers facing the front)...
But thats another story.

I reversed the stanza struts in both my ute and the sunny only because they might get a bit of fresh cool air at the frontthats my theory

YepI agree with everything Ange said....I have done the same too. The calipers to the rear of the carand I fitted 120Y castor rods. I did have the 1200 rods fitted at first and i believe you'd still be ok with them, but the Stanza ones will be long....I had mine machined and threaded about 2 inches more so i could pull the castor at around 6 degrees.

James I had an extra 2 inches of thread machined onto the stanza castor rods that way you can have a nut both front and rear to adjust your castor a lot better
cheers Andrew
