I took my coupe out for the MG sprint day today, out at QR(willowbank) and it went well exept for the large plume of smoke that followed me for most of the two laps!

Oil catch tank is where it can from! it over flowed and went all over the dump pipe, hence the smoke! it got into the cabin and then i pulled off to the side and went straight for the pits.
The one i have on at the moment is a rough home made job, no bigger than a coke can, and it has no return spout that leads back into the motor(or sump).
What i would like to know is how some of you guys with the CA18DET conversion how did set your oil catch tank up? anything speical that you did? i know for a fact that to comply with CAMS you have to get a 2lt tank but the problem with that for me is the room required or the lack of it, for me!

The day was a bad day right from the beginning, first the battery went dead on me in the scrutineering shed, i couldn't find a park in the covered areas and then they put me racing against a couple of porsche's and a 200sx, i got overtaken by three of them(porsche's) and i glanced into the rear veiw mirror and saw a s@#t load of smoke coming out of the back of my car,
OH WELL!!!! NO USE WHINGING ABOUT IT!
THATS RACING!!!!!!!!

On a good note, the stanza struts i installed worked really well!! and the car flies when you give it a bootfull, it's a work in progress!!

Hi Steveo
I have had the same drama at QR as you did due to the fact that I usually slightly overfill the motor to prevent oil surge. That and the fact that my motor is starting to get a bit tired so I'm getting some blow by. My catch can holds just over a litre and is mounted on the passenger's side. Did you overfill the motor with oil? Keep in mind too that with all the right hand corners at QR if your catch can is mounted where mine is you're going to get a lot of oil in there.
I plan on putting in a return line when I have an oversize sump fitted in the next couple of months. This is probably the only way to prevent it from occurring.
I'll be back out there for the November Saturday afternoon sprints. Hope to see you there.
Regards Matty

I had a pulsar with a ca18det it only took half a cup of too much oil to make a mess!

Don't be scared to leave the oil a bit down on the dip stick, CA's seem to breath a bit and at high revs it just pumps the oil out.

Spot on flyby I found if the oil level is rigth or even a little low its dosnt pump much oil out. I have a 2 ltr oil catch can on passenger side with no return. After a supersprint I normally empty it around half a cup if that. Lots of revs and boost teh ac will always breath a bit out.

I thought of that, but i checked it when i got home and it was about half(on the dipstick)
is that too much??
come to think about it, i started to smell it in the cabin when i went around the middle RH corner(after the flip-flop)
This is the first time that this has happened since i've had the car, but i think it was only because i "rung it's neck!", i've never driven it that hard before.
Is there anywhere that a return line can be fitted to a CA motor without modifying the sump? A fella up the road from me drag races a R32 skyline and he said he has got an oil catch that holds about a litre, but i don't know where to connect the return line to.
Any ideas?
