Hey all. If I were to buy Weber 45 DCOE's for my car, would I have to adjust it every once in a while? My friend said I would would have to adjust it to cope with the difference in air temp / air density, but he drives a fuel injected car so I don't know what to believe haha. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you have your Webber correctly tuned by a competent dyno operator/ Webber expert, it/ they will perform wonderfully at the temp, humidity, & altitude that the tuning was done at.

When you drive through the following winters & summers, on mountaintops, or through Death valley [below sea level] the performance will be diferent, but only marginally so. It will not really be worth retuning it unless you decide to move, say from Baja to Denver.
Yes, the fuel inflicted engine effectively retunes itself as it drives, but with carburettor technology, you do the best that you can, & live with it. You will not be dissapointed.

Once correctly set, you should not need to touch your carbs during a normal service life except for routine filter replacements.

Hey there Ham,
good question - one that I think has evolved from the dodgy second hand carby market A lot of people circulate the urban myth that Weber carbs are constantly needing attention but if you have new units ( or good used ones ) I find they are a set and forget item. Once tuned, I don't touch them and my racecar starts easily, idles after a short period and has no flat spots or coughs etc - and they sound great flat out As for altitude adjustment, well I suppose if you are alternating between mountains and desert plains regularly then okay, but for your average variations I don't think there is a massive difference - just an excuse to fiddle with something . Good luck with your choice. "When in doubt - FLAT OUT !"
Cheers

Thanks for the replies. I now feel a lot better now on buy a performance carb (new). Right now I don't know much about how to adjust a carb, let alone take one apart and put it back together. Hopefully I'll learn how to do that in the near future. Thanks again.

Yes, most any carb will have problems with drastic elevation changes. When I took my Ford 200-six from sea level to 5000 ft (8000 km) elevation, it ran a noticeable bit rich as I recall, but a quick roadside twist of the idle mixture screw made it idle better.

However, some of the newer Datsun A-series carbs have an altitude-compensating mechanism. These are mostly on California cars (to meet emissions laws) but work OK.

My Weber DGV experience is that it stayed in tune as well as any carb.
