Last night we were driving to go watch a movie and stopped at the traffic light and the engine just stalled, tried starting it wont turn over but its cranking
so I got it towed by RACQ and this morning RACQ came to try to start the car but NO LUCK
they dont know whats wrong with it

they checked and found its got

Good spark
Good fuel, tried spraying new fuel in carb (incase of bad batch)
checked fuel filter
checked timing
checked distributor
checked oil
checked water/coolant
starter motor is good

just wont start!

Anyone got any advice? I'm stuck and dont have a car.

Does it sound like it tries to fire when you crank it over or does it just crank?

Check carby to make sure none of the jets are blocked.

sounds like just cranking
and we checked the carb already and its spraying good fuel
also tried injecting fuel into the carb in case of bad batch of fuel

RACQ guy was dont know whats wrong
just told me that it might be the compression

If you can try hill starting it. It quite often starts things that the starter motor wont. Although not a solution it might help you determine the problem.

If the RACQ is anything like the NRMA I would forget what they told you and go and check everything for yourself.
You say you were driving , stopped at some lights and it stalled.
Seriously check for yourself that there is spark at the spark plug side of the ignition leads.
I am guessing the points are stuffed and need replacing or the wire from the coil to the points has broken.

I had an aftermarket rotor button in my 1200 ute. It was one of those clear ones. The spark managed to erode a path from the underside of the brass strip on the top, right through to the distributor shaft.

I was just hummin' along the highway at about 70mph [110k] when the engine just cut dead. It took all of three minutes to diagnose, & another hour to hitch a ride into town for a new button, then back out to fit it, & it never missed a beat since. Check the points first.

actually WE did checked the car not just the RACQ guy cos he was scratching his head so I tested the car myself with him and good spark, the wire is good on the points, and the button was checked as well.

I took the car to the mechanics today and now its just a matter of a waiting game..

I took the car to the mechanics and they said definitely not mechanical problem
he said its electrical problem

not enough power to the distributor

I recently installed a weber with electric choke and it was running fine
thats connected to the +ive side of coil with 15amp fuse

then I installed a tachometer which obviously connects to the -ive side of the coil

then the mechanic said that it keeps cranking non stop even you turn the ignition off... he said theres something wrong with the ignition barrel/lock???

i dont think that will cause that problem...

any ideas people???

Get a can of start ya bastard. lol

If points are good, check the coil.
I've had problem like these before, the coil might seem fine, but believe me, these sometimes trouble, whith out you knowing. Check the coil with a metre.
Another thing, cause of cranking the car alot to try and start her up, the plugs itself might soaked with fuel, take them of, and clean.

Oh and one more thing, if she still dont start after all the advice given by other guys as well, I'd suggest getting a compression tester and check.
