Anyone here know any details or info about the Datsun Honey Bee? I know they were advertised in '75 and '76 - maybe other years I don't know. They have special stripes and have a little cartoony "bee" on each side. Was there any thing else different about them - specs or anything? I've seen white and yellow paint, only 2door sedans so far. Was this US only? Any production numbers out there?

By the way, the reason I'm wondering is it came up on the yahoo group that one of these was bought off ebay in almost mint condition, 27k miles, all original. And apparently it will or maybe has been converted into a drifting monster by the TV show "Monster Garage" (ya know the one where they destry a car on a limited money/time budget turning into some sort of monster). I think they're putting a 350Z engine in it. Kinda pisses me off as this model seems to be very rare and this one was in such nice condition. OH well - I'm not sure this is the place to bitch about keeping dats original ;)

Here are a couple of ads I found - fist one is '75 and second is '76.

Looks like a special edition 120Y. Can't recall them ever being sold in Aus in this way.

Yes it's labeled B-210 on the pillars I believe which is the US name for the 120Y. Is that grill unique? I haven't seen many B-210's but the pics I've seen look different. Here's the auction for the car that got hacked: ebay link It will probably expire soon as it's already a few months old. BTW Nov. 15th is supposed to be the date the Monster Garage will air, so if you want to see this car get destroyed that's the day to watch.

That's a standard grille they changed over in a different year.

The HoneyBee was the cheapest B210 of them all, it was a package designed to appeal to young drivers. It had rubber mats instead of carpets and most B210 optional equipment was not orderable with the HoneyBee.

Ahhh, the Honey Bee. Anything you ever wanted in a car,..... it didn't have it.
Its real feature was its low price, & to achieve that, just about everything that did not absolutely have to be there,.... wasn't.

Nothing special about them, basicly it was a standard B210 2 door sedan with the bare necessities, ie: rubber floor mats instead of carpet, cheap, ugly tan vynal interior trim, a 4 speed transmission, no radio, etc. it was a U.S. only thing to sell a basic car with no frills. the only thing that made them different from other B210's was the stripe kit and the lesser quality interior trim.
the stripe kit could be purchased for about $100 and anyone could have made thier B210 deluxe into a "Honey Bee". somewhere I have a stripe kit that was going to be thrown out when I worked at a dealer, NO it"s not for sale.

It's interesting that the yellow car in the pics doesn't appear to have hubcaps, the white car has dog dish hubcaps and the only hubcaps I remember were the honeycomb ones.
