The 3rd time now, I've used the 1200 delux down to my folks place at the coast, which is 750kms single, stopping just once on the way down and once on the way up again, to stretch my legs and check oil and water.
I really pushed the limits with her, doing speeds of 150kmph at 99% of the trip. When I stopped halfway on the trips, I noticed that the exhaust was burning an orangish colour, which in my opinion is brilliant, compared to whitish grey.
SHe hasnt taken a drop of oil or water.

I'm really pleased with the oldie, and I definatley take-back any harsh words I've mentioned of the a12 motors.
These motors can really take a beating, and ya, ya, ya, ya, I'm sure you guys are thinking bad of me thrashing her this way, but, since shes proved her reliability, I'm gonna spend my christmas bonus etc, to get her restored to pristine condition.

DATSUN 1200s are still on the roads and going stronger than ever, just ask all the newer front-wheel-drive car owners I've passed on the roads.

Anyone else willing to share there positive surpises that there Dattos have given them.

150 k/h is not pushing the A12 The fact that you stopped to check oil and water proves you are babying the car.

I drove my 1200 a wee 175 miles (280 km) on Saturday and the 'ol A12 engine ran great. The speed limits here are only 70 mph -- meaning a wimpy 4500 rpm. It could run this way for days, indeed it ran for about 9 hours @ 4500 rpm the day I bought it.

Are these stock A12's were talking about here.
i went on a local datsun cruise at the weekend and my 1000 went strong. the speedo was reading 80mph but i believe this to be faulty. the only trouble i had was it got a little hot after a longish hill climb. I was very pleased with the fuel economy i had. 7 liters per 100 km.

My 1200 is stock except for nissan electronic ignition. I even have 12" tires. The speedometer in my car is 7.5 % fast.

Yep, My 1200 is standard except for an a14 hitachi carb.
As for fuel economy, she wasnt that great.
I guess I expected a bit too much, but then then again, I realise that its a 4speed, and the motors really rev up at high speeds.
