looking at some rims in japan, they are damn cheap brand new, at like 400US a set

and i have a free flight which i could use to go pick them up

but to open up the options on some of the better rims over there it looks as though a 4 x 100 or even 5 stud pattern is required

is there an easy (read cheap) way to do it that is legal?

Answer ( read no ) they used to sell wheels that would suit ford and chev , the stud holes were elongated so when they were all bolted up they would automatically find there own centre, it worked but they were deemed illegal by the authorities. You may be able to get them redrilled but I don't know if that would be legal either

a lot of front wheel drive 4 stud mags that you can buy these days are actually supplied double drilled so that they fit both 4/100 and 4/114.3

They have eight wheel stud holes and you just bolt it up to the set that fits.

I dont know if this is an option for you
but shows what is available

the other way to do it is that most four stud datsuns hear use what they call holden AB wheel bearing sets. on the 1200 they use a different type of wheel bearing, so the fix that i had was to change to a late model stanza strut, then change your disc and rotor to the silvia five stud pattern, which then becomes the same as ford stud pattern. once done there are thousands of options for wheels. the only drama i can forsee is then getting the right offset.
