my turbos are leaking exhaust from the exhaust exit flange, i have old (copper i think) gaskets and i know i should buy new ones but that would be too hard

is there a sealant or anything that would be up to the job that i could use, is that red loc-tite silicon able to withstand the sort of temprature expected here

p.s. the exhaust inlet uses the same method but doesnt show signs of leaking

One of the most common things to happen with turbo's. Is the manifold to turbo gasket blows a hole, with that one it's best to replace the gasket as you can run the risk of blowing a chunk out of your manifold. I'd suggest the same with your dump pipe gasket, get it replaced that way you don't run into any problems

Cheers

Turbo headers etc, can get red hot, so most sealants will let go. I think that you will need the appropriate gasket. Also make sure that the exhaust is adequately "hung", to reduce the forces on the turbo's gaskets.

I dont know if it's available in Aussie, but there is some stuff you can get here called maniseal.
Its a white goo in a tube, that sets rock hard. Thats all I'm using on my extractor to exhuast pipe flange, with no leaks.

Yep, we've got maniseal. I guess that's worth a try. I normally just use that on exhaust joints, never tried it on turbo flanges. I guess if you torque up the bolts correctly, it should be ok for 12 months.

Maniseal is on my list of things good, right up there with permetex #3 and cable ties.

When it heats up it expands. Go a bit easy on it as it will protrude and hamper exhaust flow if you go overboard.

I ran no gaskets on my turbo setup and not a leak to be seen/heard.
