Drift damage, dammit, anyone got a h190 vanette axle handy :-) |

yes well, went to the drift nationals last sunday, thought i was as good as the pros
apparently not
ended up smaking it into a gutter sideways, both wheels hit roughly at the same time, the car jacked up like it was gonna roll on me
drove away, rear tyre was flat, get out to change it, oh crap a chunk of my wheel is missing, ive broken like 8inches of the lip off my rear rim and scrathed the front rim
change the tyre, drive to nearest servo and pump up the spare i just put on, hmmm doesnt seem to drive so bad
after driving home and to a mates, i notice a scrapping noise getting worse and worse so today i decide to check it all out, anyway
the disc is eating the caliper, and the disc is straight so obviously the axle is bent, and on the front it gets hard to turn at one point of the roatation so i pressume the front stub axle or something is also bent
so my dattos back off the road and ive learnt a lesson about drifting
gee it's hard with my engine setup!
oh yeah and the other damage, my passengers shoulder has hit the door so hard the top section just under the window is all dinted, and the window wouldnt close properly, but he is fine
p.s. i dunno maybe it's not just the engine, i have odd tyres and theres a lot of diff movement side to side (need nolethane rubbers), but i swear i was good at it!, no really

I did a simmilar thing a couple of months ago to my R31. Bent a rim, axle and stuffed the panhard rod... it is amazing what one lil gutter can do.

where on earth did they hold this drift competition? Seems silly, not to mention dangerous, to hold the competition at a venue with old fashioned gutters on the side of the course. As you mentioned, it increases the risk of rollover dramatically. Why not use a racetrack with safe road edges?
check your spring hangers too, and the 'chassis rails' (if you can call them that!) they mount to as well. They are easily bent with a sideways hit.

nah wasnt a comp, it was a couple of days after the comp, i went to an idustrial estate and was having a bit of a play

Have checked to see how close a series3 bluebird H190 axle are lenght wise ? I can give measurements of one i f you wish ..

So how do you find the vannett diffs. I have been pondering on the conversion. Doesn't seem bad. They are a big diff, i can get a hold of one for $95. Thats the diff ratio like 4.7-4.7:1 or something. You must have a 5 speed or something otherwise you would run out of revs in 4th.

the a-15 vanettes have a h190 diff, this is 90mm wider in track than stock 1200 diffs, and has a 4.1:1 ratio, i still run out of gears though, am going to get a 5-speed celica box with dellow bell very soon!!
im pretty sure the bluey diff is 1 inch wider again either side, but then it may have an offset centre??? one axle being longer than the other, my bro actually found the right vanette in a wrecker today so getting one is not going to be too difficult now, thanks anyway
he also found a volvo with the 2 x adjustable brakes bias valves on it, so im finally going to have brake bias on tap too !!!! yay
am goingo to chuck in a hydraulic handbrake at the same time for good measure, should make a mean drift monkey outta me yet!
only unfortuante thing is im still spending all my money on mechanicals and not making it pretty but thats they way its sposed to be right?

According to my Bluebird parts book [910] the station wagon, when fitted with the four speed transmision, was equiped with the H190 diferential in a 3.889 to 1 ratio. If you can find one of these, you will restore your coup'e original ratio.
There is only one part number for the rear axle shaft for the 910, [38162- W1000] regardles of the diferential model, or ratio, so they are all the same length.
P.S. My "Nissan service training" book titled "Introduction to Bluebird, 1984 model" shows the H190 diff ratio for 4 speed wagons as being 3,7 to 1, however, this is not reflected in my parts book. Very odd.

Any chance you can measure one of the Vanettes axles in lenght ( from axle spline to axle face) as I need some H190 axles slightly shorter that the bluebird axles .. Cameron I--------- Axle [lenght]
