Well I'm not stupid after all. I finished the conversion in August but didn't want to spend $1000 on an aftermarket programmable ignition. I am not running fuel injection., twin side draft carbs. Found out about Jaycar after nightmares with the New Zealand Hyperpak Unit. Took a week of fiddling at night to make the unit from a kit.
Today for the first time ever I drove the ute with real timing advance..
The 4AGE is a great conversion for the ute.
Anyone had success with the Hyperpak Units from NZ?

Red 1200 1972 ute. Country car...noooo rust. Everything mechanical except front susp. is AE86 sprinter. 4AGE 16 valve, twin dellortos, 5 speed t50, mazda 929 wagon t/shaft(no cutting) sprinter diff and handbrake setup, even the handbrake lever. Mags, flares go on in 2 weeks, extractors. Scares the hell out of commodores. Coupe dash, check out early pics in album under normo.
A bloody shopping trolley rolled out of a shop (empty) over the high gutter and.. and...
I cried.
straight into the passenger door.
Putting in new rubbers for 1/4 flippers ($100 on ebay) Thermo fan, sprinter radiator.
I drive it to school, 70k (all in 100kph zone)
No not a student I'm the Deputy next year.
Won't ever grow up huh.

Yeah, good one Normo.

It's a shame that you didn't try and fight with the factory ECU, and get the Fuel Injection going.

But it's out of the garage, and mobile..that's the main thing

Cheers

sounds like an awesome package mate, even though my brother in law has a sprinter at this time i cant remember what rear end they have, have you adopted something other than a leaf rear

The sprinter coil spring attachments were cut off and leaf spring mounts welded on. The diff is a n inch or so wider on each side, I've got 205 13 inch on rear si the flares will help.

Back in my "teaching days" in the mid nineties, I used to feel like a poorman turning up to Campbelltown HS driving my CA powered 1200 Sedan... Oh how times have changed. I might have got more "cred" these days, if I was still a teacher

I teach in a country town of about 2000 ppl. near Tamworth NSW.
Great way of life, great kids, very little stress.
The Librarian wanted a lift home the other week. So we jump in the Datto (redback spider gearknob) and one of the other teachers made a disparaging remarks about Datsuns. I dropped the clutch as I left the carpark, the poor old Librarian started screaming. She should be fully recovered by now.
Luv my Datto.
Replying to the Fuel Injection. When I got the unit it came with computer and wiring. What a mess cut wires, twisted joins, the throttle body would have been 1/2 way thru the brake booster, so, I went with the twin side drafts. They give an awesome note under full throttle.
