Anti-Dieseling Solenoid

The wire inside the anti-dieseling solenoid off my carby has broken off. The wire is a snug fit inside the solenoid so continues to make contact, however any sideways movement of the wire causes contact to be lost.

Is it possible to resolder the wire inside the solenoid or do I need to find a new one?

Or can the end of the soleniod be removed (don't know it's proper name) so that it doesn't operate any more. Not sure of the consequences of this other than the engine may (or will) run on when I switch off.

Any comments welcome.

either find a good S/H one or remove the pin from inside. It's not worth the time trying to fix one, unless its real simple

all that taking the pin out will do is when u switch off it will keep turning a few times and if u have no aircleaner, when the engine stops completely it squirts a bit of fuel, its quite amusing actually hahha

Thanks guys. Think I'll look for a second hand one (Nissan quoted $130.00) for a new one. Otherwise, the pin comes out.

I am not sure where the solenoid is mounted on a datsun but 1600cc MK2 escorts ran one that just plugged into a piece of hose that runs off the manifold.

If you have running on dramas this could help.

Dude, i wouldnt recommend taking the little needle out because it will run so much richer at idle and then nearly stall as you put your foot down as it nearly floods, releasing a nice cloud of smoke behind you, clip the tapered end off the needle with some bolt cutters or get yourself a new solenoid. U-pullit type wreckers are great, just put it in your pocket, (did not hear that from me) you need an adjustable as it is quite a large bolt size, larger than 18mm i know because i had to use an adjustable.

Pulling the pin out is a last resort if the solenoid becomes unreliable and causes the engine to stall at idle . At the moment I can live with it. I think I can get a good second hand one, but will also look for one at the wreckers or even swap meets.
