I read in the tech section that the H165 (late model ute diff) is strong enough for a stock CA18DET. Is this true? have people used this diff and engine combo without catastrophy? how much do these diffs usually sell for? if they will hod up to the power i'm vey keen to buy one.
any imput would be muchly appreciated.
cheers
Elliott

The service life of a diferential is dependant on the "load" that it bears. Big tyres, high powered engines & an abuseive driving style will result in a shortened service life.
"Drive" the car, instead of abusing it, & the service life will be extended conciderably.

Several things will help here, things like
Correct size tyres [not too wide or sticky]
Cushioned center in the clutch plate. [some clutches are just too brutal]
An engine that can be driven at realistis RPM. Frequent launching at 5000 rpm because of hairy cams is not good for any driveline part.

In my view, these H165 diffs should hold up behind a CA18DE just fine unless you are hell bent on destroying it.

The H165 will hold up. I had a stock ca18det in front of one of them for 3 years in a 1200..never a problem.

In a healthy CA18det, it might be a problem. Mine only ever did 80kW at the wheel.

Driving "normally" it'll be fine.

Dattodude's right, just "drive" it, even in a hard, or spirited & sporting manner & it will be just fine. There is a big diference between driving a car hard & abusing it & the hard drivers are usually the ones in front.

Start sidesteping the clutch at max RPM & generally abusing the car & that H165's service life may be less than you would like.
