Need to upgrade Radiator

Hey guys, I'm looking for suggestions as to what radiator I should be upgrading to. The current radiator is quite thin, I believe it may be a pulsar radiator, but I am not sure.

We had problems holding temps down when at race pace during testing....we could only get 4 laps in before the temps were up at 100 degrees C. When driving at around 75%, temps seemed to be ok, sitting at about 85-90 degrees.

Any ideas on what type of radiator I could use? Some one has suggested having a VL Commodore radiator modified to suit...any thoughts on this?

Cheers,

Mark.

P.S. Heres a pic of the current set-up... I have plenty of space to put in a thicker radiator.

How about a custom made unit, This one was built to cool up to 350HP, it just fits between the inner guards.

That's an option.....just trying to see if there is something we can make fit first...if not...a custom one will be on the cards.

If you can, see if you can spend a few hours at a Pick-a-part type of wrecker. Take your trusty tape measure & go for it. It will not matter if the radiator is too tall as any radiator shop worth a cracker should be able to fix that. As long as it fits OK & desirably, it would be able to be fitted with a heavy duty triple row core if deemed worthwhile, even if it is a shortened one.
I believe that this will be a more cost effective option, even if a new shortened heavy duty core is needed.

Good luck

i know a really good radiator bloke, he first recommended that i get a 3 row copper rad from a commodore and he would just chop a few rows out to make it fit. then he stumbled accross these two row alloy cores which he gets second hand and makes end tanks and top covers to suit. the core is nearly two inches thick. let me know if you want more info on price, i think you'll be surprised tho.

then i have gone to wreckers and searched around for ones that will fit straight in. SAAB seem to have a good range, and a mate of mine runs an alloy SAAB turbo rad in his SR20DET 1600 race car and it works awesomely (www.cm510.com). but they also have copper ones. Volvo's have good cores but are far too tall... the list is endless!

looking at your engine bay again, the SAAB copper radiators have the hose positions in the right spot for you. top on the drivers side and bottom on the passengers side. i know where one is too, could buy it and throw it in the wags for datnats....

Mark I can Highly recommend PWR radiators. It depends on how much you want to spend. The way I look at it its better to spend more for a better quality setup that will protect your investment (engine) they charged me $700 for a custom 40mm alloy job works a treat.
A custom copper core will probably be around $400 anyway.
I used to run a modified 3 row VN V8 radiator it on the street and drag racing ect it was fine but had troubles keeping below 100deg doing circuit!!! after about 3 laps at eastern creek it was getting pretty warm.
cheers Andrew

Mark, Andrew got a PWR radiator (Paul Wheel of V8 supercar fame). His radiators are premium quality with optimum heat transfer at a very reasonable price....

Andrew got a contact for Mark at all?

how about a z24 powered nissan urvan.they're
2 core,quite wide & short,have plastic tanks,& a remote filler neck.you'd have to check where the outlets are,i can't remember for sure.there's
6-8 of these's out at northern wreckers at londonderry,go on saturday & watch the kid doing laps in whatever he can get started.i spent 2 hours under a stanza getting the sump
& crossmember out,& all the time i can hear the sound of burnouts.it was the kid doing doughnuts in a falcon ute down the back.a couple of sunnys there, too.
