Hey guys i was lucky enough to pick up a R31 skyline diff with an LSD center for $150 of a mate so its time to start my diff conversion.
Any pointers should this diff be strong enough how much should i expect to pay if i do the diff fitting and just pay someone to cut it down and respline the axles any help would be great.
Cheers Luke

if it really has an LSD centre in it that was a very nice score! thats even cheap for a non LSD diff, if complete!

about the $600-$700 mark to get it done if you take it to a diff place and give them an old diff to copy measurements from. that'll have the housing cut down, the axles shortened and resplined and the mountings to the leaves put in place. might also be an idea to get them to push new bearings on the axles and check out the condition of the LSD centre too.

Haven't heard from Kev in a while (even though he has my car) but he gets them done really cheaply up in Ipswich/Brisbane. He told me that the axles don't actually need to be resplined (from memory). I think the short side is swapped to be the long side and the long side spline is normally long enough to cope with the extra length just being cut down (i think, that was the trick?).
But yeah. Take a drive north and camp on the beach, have a few drinks by the fire, drop off the diffs - repeat to pick 'em back up and even then you would still have change. Prices i got quoted in Newcastle were around 1500$. Half that is a good price and Kev's prices were(?) better still.

Saw Kev to pick up my diff on Friday, (what do you want to know about your ute?) The short axle becomes the long one and the long one is cut and resplined. Call Kev, he may even freight something to you. Or Jack can drop it off when he drives his ute back!

If you call or go to Craft Diffs and ask for Red, dont ask Richard a price, Red will do a good price for cash. Just make sure he knows that you know what the go is ( like only needing one axle splined).

I recomend actually measuring how wide you want the diff using the intended wheels and make sure the offset will clear the brakes and not hit the leafsprings.

The only picture I can find is courtesy of Jack, but it doesn't display the complete assembly very well
