I need to know if a CA18DE (non turbo) and box will fit in a datto 1200 without choping the tunnel. Im happy to make mounts etc but I do not want to chop any part of the body to get it in. No turbo means I wont have to chop the valence, im happy to make radiator brackets. I want it to be reversable incase someone else wants to convert the car back to original, its a 2 door sedan so its pretty rear in NZ. I saw someone who had a MINT 1200 stationwagon and had choped it up to fit a rota in it (still had big holes in tunnel and floor) and it pissed me off because it ment the car could never be original again. I understand to appeal of a rota (or other high horsepower motor) and I get the need for an original/ different body but I disaprove of it being done to a rear (they are in Auckland NZ) car and badly. I want good hp and I want my 1200 but if I cant do it so I can reverse it (replace crossmembers and radiator mounts) then I ll stick with the A14/A15 upgrade. Ive got a motor lined up and dont want to piss the guy around so if any one knows, Id love to know as soon as possable.
Thanks
Quinn

well it will only fit in if its an auto tunnel and will still need some "masaging" to make it fit.

And you dont need to cut the front of the car if you want to run a turbo they work fine with out a intercooler on low boost.

It will "only" fit with the auto tunnel and stumpy skyline box.

Using the silvia gearbox will definitely mean chopping the tunnel.

Yeah i aggree with the tunnel and stupy skline box i had a good look at a L20 1200 a few years back and it had the stumpy box in it

fitted pretty nice with a bit of hamering

if you turn some of the extra belt bits of the frount pully it really helps with spacing as well

that L series 1200 had whole saw holes around the tunell with rubber gromets in them so you could get to the belhousing bolts to that looked like a good idea

Go the Turbo version mate, you will kick yourself in 6 months time when you want more power if you don't.

A well set up water injection setup and you will be able to run fairly big boost with no cutting of the front.

It looks like im back to square one. I was trying to fit a sr20de in but the box whas going to be a big problem and i rembered hearing the ca18 was an easier fit, I was just hoping it wouldn't need much to get it in. The ford type 9 box looks like the best option, it means making a custom bellhousing though. If I could run a turbo without much choping that would be verry nice.

Did some 2 door sedans come with Automatic Transmission? If so, You could always fit an auto tunnel to your sedan and modify it so you are happy with the look of the CA transplant. And in the mean time get hold of another Auto tunnel and put it to the side, so you can sell it with the car.
