Hello,
I'm having problem with my Van having SR20 engine. It is giving trouble code 34 (Knock sensor). Has anyone came accross this? I don't know where is the KS and how to check this. Usually, engine runs ok but after few drive cycles, it stops and after resetting the ECM it's fine again for a couple of rides then the problem starts again. Pls help

Maybe your knock sensor has gone bad. They're a very easy replacement I believe there's only one bolt holding it on! The problem would probably be getting access to it, I have no idea how it's situated in a van, but regardless the SR20's knock sensor will be on the intake side of the engine, about half way down in the middle. It's kind of a round/black looking piece that has either one or two wires coming out of it that's bolted to the side of the block with just one bolt right in the middle. They shouldn't be too expensive to replace. Also, many of the sensors in general on newer Nissans are susceptible to moisture and corrosion so you may want to try just checking the connection first and making sure it has good contacts, then if it still has the problems I'd replace it. Good luck

I know that with the CA18, i have had a few issues with knock sensor fault codes. The knock sensor runs a shielded/insluated wire that is very touchy when in comes to other noise. so when you wire your loom into another car, they can often gets false knocking or vibration from other sources and run the knock code 34.

to remedy this i had to go to my local dick smith electronic and buy the thickest insulated wire i could find and rewire it straight from the sensor straight to the ECU. the wire in the middle or the insulation runs the signal and the wire that shields in is earthed to the body on the ECU side. you also need to disconnect the power to the ECU overnight to reset the computer or it will keep displaying the knock sensor code.

simple and cheap, and if the problem persists i'd look at either the knock sensor or base ignition timing, might be too advanced?

good luck!
