No, really, she runs hot on the highway. Engine runs smooth as silk around 65mph, but she just slowly over heats. Any quirks with the A14 motors i should know about while i go through the basics troubleshooting my datto. (keep in mind, ive had the car less than a week , and im not used to old school carb engine. more of a efi kinda guy)

nice! When i was having that problem it was because the radiator was just restricted enough to make the car over heat only After a few minutes of highway driving and never in town.
It looks like it's in good condition.
new car = new fluids, pumps, radiator, plugs& wires, cap, rotor

Shes good from far, but far from good. Body has lots of dings and dents up close. Almost no rust till you see the diamond plate bolted under the floor. But it runs (sort of) and its paid for.

backflush your radiator by unbolting it and putting the garden hose full squirt into the lower opening.
while it's out, check the condition of the fins. if they're green/red/white/all three and very very delicate, then it's time for a new radiator.
other than that, check your hoses aren't collapsing when hot and restricting the flow. if they are, new hoses are in order.
and for goodness sake, run tannin based coolant if you're in southern USA, or glycol based if you see snow often.

The radiator looks to be in good shape. I was planning on flushing the coolant because i was worried the previous owner didnt go 50/50 with it. I've seen cars run straight coolant with no water and boil over real quick. Also gonna change the radiator cap. The current one is real old, and im wondering if it is keeping the right pressure. The hoses all seem to be ok, but i will eventualy change them out, just for reliablilty sake.

I had an overheating problem last year, but before I had a chance to fix it I blew the head gasket. Just wanted to warn you that it doesn't take much so fix the overheating problem ASAP. I still don't know why mine was overheating. HOpefully I'll figure it out or it'll go away after the rebuild. PS the car looks great in the pic.

I would definitely check out the radiator and try to either get a new one, or get that one re-cored and maybe a core or two added. You should do a full flush/backflush of the system as there is probably corrosion in the heater core and probably in the block and cylinder head. If it's heating up at stoplights that's one story, meaning you probably need a bigger/better fan, but if it's on long stretches the faster you go that kinda tells me you need either a bigger radiator, more airflow through the radiator, or it's clogged up a bit somewhere. My bet is that your radiator just isn't big enough, you ARE living in Texas for crying out loud so it isn't exactly easy for it to stay cool.
Personally I would do a flush and then buy the biggest aluminum radiator you can fit and never worry about overheating again.

Yes, it is Texas, but iswas doing this on 60 degree days. Like i said, im pretty sure the radiator is ok, but eventualy i do want to go with a bigger radiator and better fan settup. for now, i just need it to run well enough to commute to and from post with out blowing up.

Other things that make it run hot= bad timing and bad mixture.
I think if you let it get warmed up and feel around on the front of the radiator, you'll feel cool spots where the tubes are blocked.
while you're getting a new radiator/core consider converting it to an electric fan too.
you might also want to check the thermostat
