hey guys just wondering about the idea of running my ute on jet fuel, seems that i can get it cheaper than premium fuel that it usually runs on. the engine is a CA18det with forged pistons and copper head gasket and is a tuff little engine, but is tuned to run on 98ron fuel? what do yas reckon. one of my mates ran it in their dirty old holden and it made a difference, but made it run just a little bit hotter

Jet fuel is basically kerosene and I dont suggest you run your car on it.

if it's leaded, then no, you can't use it on the street and face a, now $50,000, fine for doing so.

what RON is it? does it have methanol in it? ethanol? toluene? methanol will corrode your fuel lines if left to sit, ethanol is just plain fun in the right mixtures and toluene costs $1.50 a litre but we seem to get it for free in some cheaper fuel.

i dunno - who's ripping off who there...?!

Are we talking Jet-A1 here? or AVGAS.

Jet-A1 is straight Kerosine effectively..not a good idea.

And Avgas will kill your cat convertor... It's sold as "leaded fuel" in NT as you don't get a high from sniffing it.

To read more about petrol sniffing:
Find the word avgas, in this linked page

Jet fuel is a lot closer to diesel than anything you'd want to run in a gasoline engine... I ran a 50/50 mixture of it and diesel in my Pajero and it sure cleaned the engine out good... ran like new afterwards.

Well, by now everyone knows that jet fuel is aviation grade kerosene, with a fairly low RON number, which is fine in jet engines as the compression ratio is not all that high, the combustion is continuous, & the combustion pressure is a lot lower than the peak pressures that you find in an infernal combustion engine.

On the up-side, it should be really good in your pre '50's Fordson tractor if it was originally designed to run on power kerosene.
For your Datsun, you need rocket fuel,.. that'l really make it fly,..... but only once.

wont work champ..sidedraught is right...
the best you can do is avgas and retune your CPU. It will make a difference.
You wont be able to purchase it however unless you have A) a CAMS log book and B) have applied for an AVGAS licence and C) you would have to make all your fuel purchases at an airport.

if its AVGAS, it has something like a 102 RON, and its leaded so no good for your cat... if you have one. since you have a twin cam injected turbo motor, you should get away with not having to rejet your carb/s

AVGAS will allow you to run more agressive timing and more boost. all round good really
