Hey guys.

I'm new to your site...only joined today...so I'm not sure if this post will work.

I've been a guest for a few weeks...just reading some articles..etc..and so far have been impressed by what has been written, until I read comments by certain members bragging about their conquests in street racing. (against xr6 turbo falcons and SS commodores).

One in particlular wrote...

"i'm not real keen on the whole street racing thing either, but i accellerated away from a 2004 model modified turbo performance car, in my datsun 1200 (this is datsun1200.com right) i was proud and impressed with the comparrison so thought i'd tell others."

I'm sure the members of Datsun1200.com would have been far more impressed with the comparison had it been conducted on a race track or other suitable site, not the streets of our community.

Perhaps these same members have never been first on the scene of a car accident where this type of behaviour has gone wrong. I have and I assure you it's not pleasant.

My apologies for having a gripe with my very first post...by I felt the need to say something.

I will post a few pictures of my 1200 Coupe over the next few days...as soon as I work out how to.

Cheers.

Dan

thats OK Dan, I completely agree with you. I was a bad boy on the road...that was until I had kids then I realised why people get so ticked with people doing idiotic things on the road. I keep my fast driving strictly to the track now, as A) I dont have any money to pay the fines, B) I want to protect other kids like I'd expect others to protect mine...among many other reasons.
I guess with younger guys, its pushing the limits that they enjoy and it will always be hard to change that....but I found most effective is to redirect it.
Im actually starting to do lectures to kids just coming up to driving age to redirect these urges to the track and help them realise that they dont have to spend big $$$ to have fun on the track.

Dan being a teenager and right in the thick of it i say good on you and keep the preaching up I choose not to do as i have been in a near fatal accident with a young driver and it wasnt pretty...

Although this topic is brought up alot it is always still relevant, and for once i FINALLY think that the message is kind of getting across to younger drivers from the graphic images they are shown by the media and good people like yourself Converted doing lectures.. I reckon thats the best way, get em on the track and not on the streets !!

Oh and welcome to the club!
Dave

Gawd, i just said something relevant and sensible for once

I think it is to easy to sit behind they keyboard and say dont do this and dont do that when you are not perfect yourself. You cant ell everyone what to do if you do it yourself. You cant ell me you have never spun the wheels, made undue noise, sped, always indicate, etc. I agree with no stupid activity on busy roads and residential areas or anywhere infact where other people are around. I dont mind a bit of stupidity out in the whoops or industial areas late at night where no one but the idiot themself is endangered. Its called a time and a place. If you want to race and that, yes take it to the track although dont give up on your traffic light hero days just make sure your careful and dont keep going until you win. A bit of a squirt is ok. Just keep your activities away from the public who are innocent people although you may be lucky enough to take out a paedophile or murderer They deserve it.

Time, place and stay safe.

If people want to kill them self then i'd tell them go for it.

In this world people have to think for them self.

Maybe we're all missing the point. Pareto's Law (the 80/20 rule) shows that 20% of people who drive will always be idiots no matter what the Government might push in advertising.

It's useless to talk junk like compulsory defensive driving courses and the like, because there will never be zero idiots on the road.

Feel strongly about it by all means, but in life there is only so much one can do.

what a crack up! getting persecuted for being a "street racer". man am i a hard arse . i went up against a car that was supposed to be fast and "beat" it. once. 80kph zone, divided road and an industrial area on my way to my girlfriend's for dinner. i was wearing mockies for crying out loud. probably didn't even go fast enough to lose three points.

come off it Dan... you have a twin webered a15'd 1200 with race seats and cage and harnesses etc. why would you do that??? because you like a nice handling, quick accelerating car??? i think freak put it very well, if you try to convince me you have never done a burnout or accelerated in an "unlawful" manner or any of the other things he mentioned i wouldn't believe you anyway.

i'm not an idiot. i like the time and a place idea.

and i reckon you're wrong about (most of) the rest of the website. its an interesting comparison i think. would you believe anyone if they "thought" that their car was faster than another?

these subjects always cause a bit of controversy

dedicated post too! you must feel strongly

Point taken.

I know that most of you guys have probably progressed through quicker and quicker cars and are quite accomplished drivers, and obviously take pride in, and are careful with your cars. It shows in the photos, and comments that you all make.

It may have seemed like I was singling you out LAGWAGON...if so I apologise...it was just your comment that I read.

Additionally if I came across as professing to be a saint to any of you you're right...i'm no saint.

Anyone who tries to tell people that they've never done a burnout, our gone over the speed limit, or whatever is lying.

My point...which may not have been well worded...is that there is a time and a place for everything. You have since clarified the situation you were in.

Obviously, while you guys may all be good drivers...(Datsun Drivers usually are)..there is always the possibility of an accident, usually through inattentive driving...not necessarily speeding.

All I'm saying is that before you drive in a spirited manner...consider the location, conditions of the road, other drivers and so on...and ensure that it is SAFE.

In my opinion...now that I'm older..and having been through that phase...I believe that the only safe place is on a track..or other regulated site.

It's just my opinion...which, together with $1.20 will buy you a Sydney Morning Herald.

By the way...my car does have cage...race A15....harnesses etc....but it ain't on the road yet. I need to finish brake lines / booster and a few other small things.

It'll mostly be used for hillclimbs at Bathurst...

I do feel strongly about safety on our roads....I'm sure you all do too.

Stay safe...!!!!!!

Dan.
