i've had four 8" subs sitting in my room for a while now, they are nothing special but still i thought i should be putting them in boxes. i was planning on making two boxes with two subs in them, made up a design for them as well. halfway through making them now, and i have seen a 12" Sony Xplod sub at supercheap auto for $99, now i am going to buy that and two 5" Panasonic speakers and put them in a box, but seperate them into two in the one enclosure (sorry, its hard 2 explain). anyone got any designs for something like that, and do you think it is a smart idea? i already have two 12inch subs, two 5" speakers, four tweeters and an amp in my sound system...

so you wanna make a box that is split into 2 one part for your sub and the other for your speakers???

I don't really think this will sound good as the low frequencies of the sub will cancel out some of the sound coming from the speakers.

Cheers
Damo

yes but the sweet sound of a datsun engine gets annoying after an hour on the freeway

yes throw a screwdriver through the xplod speakers and buy a couple of drivers with all their specs included (vas, Q-values, etc). Next, burn what you have already made and download winISD , design a 4th order band-pass box with with isobaric speaker setup and a port about 30cm long. run the port from the box in the boot to the parcel shelf so it sits flush... LOUD and quality... what more do u want?

serious bang for buck... you will be pleasently suprised when your two $80 10" subs out-perform your mates 2 $150 12" pioneer or other (look at my subs... aren't they pretty) brand.

get ALL the speaker specs, put abit of precision work in and you'll be pleasently suprised

step off soap-box...

I agree with anders8b partly.
Sony make good home entertainment systems, but they are close to the bottom of the barrel when it comes to car audio. Shiney bright reds and silvers dont make quality, they just make looks. Thats why Sony stuff is sold where it is.

Spend your money on a nice sound quality stereo and save the rest for better things like your car.
Big stereos get boring and tend to dissappear at night.

One of the advantages of being old & tone deaf is that i can't much tell the diference between my original one-speaker AM radio & a top quality sound system, so i won't be spending any money on sound systems for my car that do nothing but waste space. My car is for doing car stuff in, while a home sound lounge is for listening to musak in.
I'l spend the money on car stuff for the car & it won't have an identity crisis [is it a car, or a mobile disco?] & i kinda like the sounds that my Datsun engines make, even after listening to it some six hours down the road. It's never annoying.

Shame. What sound could be nicer than a well tuned exhaust system.

Not much, but i'l prefer to be listening to quality tunes for an hour than a loud monotone growl

i think that you are funny, because you say that you prefer listening to quality tunes for and hour than a loud monotone growl, but if you ask me your sound system you talk of sounds like a piece of poo, and i think that i would prefere to listen to a well tuned A series engine, or the hum and wistle of a CA. you may listen to good music on it but it will never sound like quality music, its all about quality not quantity, cheap stuff never ever sounds as good as the expensive stuff, so why waste your time, and money.
