Just wondering....does anyone know if there is a 4 speed automatic(overdrive)transmission that can fit to an A series engine?

The answer is no.. but that being said anything is possible. most 4 speed boxes are electric so you would never get it to shift properly.

My verdict 3 speed is the go if not manual all the way

I think the Vl Commodore/Skyline Jatco 4spd is not really electronic. I heard somewhere that the only electronic component was to engage 4th. Given that the Datto uses a Jatco & companies don't like to spend money making new parts if they don't have to, I would compare your 3spd to the 4spd & see how hard it would be. Imported nissans used jatcos & I think you would get a box pretty cheap. You could also ask an auto expert. Let us know if you have any success as I might fit one to my daughters car.

I picked up the following info from an earlier thread:

"the best way to get a late model 4 speed auto is to get the jatco auto out of a r31 pintara,& use the bell housing from an a series auto.the autos are all jatco's,& the auto originally in my sunny is huge"

Good luck
