oil burning?
Guest_
my trading post special hybryid a12 is ossibly still burning oil, its had all new bearings and rngs last year and recently new valve guides.

the compression is even across all cyl but some times burns oil im guessing.

Thepiston rings seal well as the bores were honed and linisshed prior to re assembly.

Could a blocked pcv valve be the contributing factor to this. id rather check these things prior to having to stip it down again for new rings.

This has only just started to happen in the last 5 weeks.

could be .... on my 1000 i had some valve thingy sh!t itself and when you put your foot down it would draw oil into the inlet manifold and then into the engine. check the hoses or pcv that are all connected to the pollution gear.

i think the pcv valve is all the polution gea required on a 74 model isnt it
They sound like the symptoms im having.... with the valve blocked or not working it would pressurise the sump or oil passages and force oil through the breather into the air cleaner wouldnt it....
Might just wait for those su's nad be rid of it all!

You say its recently had new valve guids,it is possible the incorrect valve stem seals may have been fitted there are different sizes. I struck this problem once. GREG

no the problem surfaced prior to the valve stem seals being replaced..... replacing them was one of the areas that might have been a factor and it was easy and cheaper to do than new rings.
The rings are ok though. Still going to try the pcv valve but going 32/36 on the engine soon, saving for su's on the coupe after it gets rego (maybe 2 months away now... bloody tax refund not enough)
