is there any tricks in installing the 3 tin plates that hold the wheel cylinders in place on a 1200 ute (rear). when replacing them the last one spreads and only holds on one side .

No trick, just a few tries. Push the cylinder back into the hole, then slide the shims, A-plate on, then the B-plate snaps into place.
The new cylinder may need less shims.
