Greetings to all.

Just picked up a one owner 1200 coupe, with 51,000 on clock, no rust. I have a question re engineers in NSW, especially Sydney, who do you guys use, that is familiar with Datsun's ?

Also, 1200 being 730kg, means a max 1825/2190 cc Turbo/NA engine, using the 2.5X/3X multiplier). Is there a way around this, i.e. using the weight of the completed conversion, rather than the starting weight ? Reason why I aks, I am very keen of putting a SR20 DET, into it, as I had done before into a SR311Fairlady.So I would need completed weight just under 800 kg, which is reasonable, allowing for heavier drivetrain, intercooler, bigger brakes, diff,etc....

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am told engineers will acept a weighbridge ticket to tell the cars weight, so if it weighs more when you weigh it, it should be OK.

However it may depend on the engineer, some have asked me to jump through many more hoops than others for the same thing.

isnt it the weight of the car like stock? and also like the heaviest model eg. if u want to swap a motor in a 1200 ute u need the weight of the sedan?to determine engine size? thats wat i thought it was?

Long gone..I wish I kept it. Beautiful car, just getting very hard for parts, especially suspension, e.g. ball joints, well over a $1K for set, not to mention, the RHD steering box worms, which are not existent, many LHD ones in the States though. Then you got the brass bushes in the wishbones,etc....

OK, here is the deal, went to RTA site downloaded their engineering signatories list, rang three engineer's local to me, (quiet at work!) and they all said, that they need the heaviest weight of any derived variant as from factory, so unless there was a 1200 variant that weighed 800 kg's SR20DET is not going to happen (bummer!). I must say, I am very keen on the 20 valve black top 4AG, if I decide to go NA.

If the car is in as good a shape as you say I would keep her as she is and perform some mild mods just to give her some spice

Yes, that might be an option as well, since I got all of the original paperwork, logbooks,etc.....Maybe upgrade the front brakes, and put some sort of twin carby/cam on the motor....Choices,choices....
