I run my tyres pressure at about 33psi(2.28bar) but I see in the tech section the recommended pressure for 155R 12 is 24psi(1.65bar). Is this not a bit low? Aint the tyre gonna come off the rim if you corner hard and maybe hit a small dip/bump or are those pressures for the optimum grip?

What tyre pressures do you run and on what car with what size wheels?

TIA

I recall in years gone by that manufacturers recommended 24 psi for tyre pressures. This was in the days before steel belt radials etc. I currently run 32 psi all round on my ute and feel this may be a bit high. I'm leaning towards perhaps 30 psi just to soften the ride a bit.

24 psi is a bit low for steel belts in my opinion.

I am open to comment by some of our more learned members.

24psi is for the old crossply's, Ive got our car at 32psi, 13/165/70 bridgestones, this is in an auto sedan (my partners mostly and she hates bumps etc.) with brand new bushes gas shocks and springs and stanza struts and is really smooth, not rough at all. The gas shocks suck though way too much rebound. Should of kept the old ones or got new oil shocks but they are quite pricey.

I use about 32psi cold and that feels real good even when the tyres are hot,

Some of ought members that have race cars will give you a better idea of what press to use.

On my ute I run 28 psi in the rears (mostly empty, 32 with a load) and 32 psi in the front. Both measured cold (pressure varies heaps with temp)
Any tyre place will reccomend that you do not go below 28 because of the make up of radial tyres and damage that can be done by too much flex in the sidewalls and corners of the tread.

For radial tires 155/SR12, the recommmended pressure is 24 psi. Bias-ply used 22 psit.

Absolutely not! They are designed for 24 psi. The pressure listed on the tire is the maximum pressure -- to be used for maximum weight loads. The 1200 is so light, it needs less pressure.

No, they are for optimum wear. Your tires will wear evenly at this pressure. At higher pressures, the center of the tread wears faster.

That's baloney. They'll go by the car manufacturer's recommendations for stock size tires. For heavier cars, it is generally true.
