I have an A15 and I was just wondering if it is that the EGR valve is going bad would it cause the engine to stall and not idle smoothly? Also if its bad would it cause the engine to burn more gas? If I was to remove this valve completely would it cause any problems in the engine?

i think bad idling and such are simptoms of the valve being stuck open. It's fairly easy to clean the carbon deposits out and keep using it. you can take it off and block the passages, that's not good if you live somewhere that they have emissions testing though.

About the only thing that removing it will do is perhaps run a bit richer and pollute slightly more.

you can block it if you like the smell of naplam in the morning....(i mean fumes)... but it will idle ok... just went through this too, only $12 for a new one..... works a treat.

My fiancee thinks it smells sexy. Might not be good if you don't like the smell of gasoline ;)
