Im sure some people have some information about this on this site, what was THE most sold Datsun before it changed over to Nissan (1985ish)???

Im having a stab and saying it was the 120Y (in Australia)! Theres so many still laying around in wreckers, people yards etc.. South Africa im guessin the 1200 ute or Bakkie, America??

I've read that 400,000 P510's were sold here in America between 1968-73, but I think the 1970-78 Z Car would take the honors if you counted them as the same vehicle.

I think the 1200 utes would take it easily.

Brought to OZ 70-85, Made in Japan from 70-94, sent to many other countries from Europe, south america, Mexcio and Africa. There still made in South Africa, been used all over the world because there Cheap, very versitile and great repuataion for not being killed with a stick .... I think they would have sold heaps! Most well known oldskool datsun is most proably the Z series but.

EDIT: Sorry did not see the up to 1985 changed to Nissan comment....but i never ever look at a 1200 and think Nissan!! Even if it has a Nissan on the tray, its lies i tell you all lies! there still Datsun's in my heart

If your talking about up to 85 in the U.S. it might be a close race between the Z, 210,& sentra. Not everybody could afford to buy the Z- car so I guessing it would be between the 210, and the sentra.

there's more b11 and b12 sentra(sunny) here in the US than probably every datsun ever sold. The cheap cars dominate the numbers, followed by utilitarian things ( oddly utes ) and finally the much less common sporty cars.

in terms of what cars people have a passion for: 2*0z(x) and 510's.

210's and 200sx are not cars many here are passionate about. It seems that there are a very small number of 210's that are owned by someone in the $$ enough to pamper them. Most of those seem to be race cars, where they are spoiled.

I had an 83 sunny and it was the same with that, I'd have to give the parts away. Nobody that owns one wants to spend any money on them.

So we're really lucky we have any 210 aftermarket support.

in the caribbean the most popular datsuns before '85 were the 1200s & 120ys(b210 & b310).they were cheap and very neat lookimg cars.they were popular in barbados and trinidad and still are.

As people have stated, it changes differently from country to country. What is the sentra? The only photos or info on sentras ive seen is a newish (post 90s) sedan/saloon model....

B120Dat, your probably right in saying the 1200 Ute would be the most exported vehicle due to its versatility & everyone loves them!
Im in the same boat, my sunny has Nissan/Datsun stamped on the side but always think of it as a Datsun!

Sooooo really, the Z car would be the most sold/loved sports car around the world i reckon, and the 120Y/B310 the most cheap afordable car & the 1200 Ute most versatile/exported... Sound bout right?

The sentra came into production in 1982, was not much to it at first ,but sold alot of them. then they got very popular and are still in production today,and very sporty now. Like the sentra SE-R
