Well maybe this wil inspire some disscussion worthy of the tech section, there is not alot of information here regarding this topic.

I have collected all the parts to install my new exhaust and am now questioning if I have made the right choice.

From my stock a14, b210, 32/36, I am going to install a header that collects at 2.5". Then I have 2.5" pipe back to a 2.5" Magnaflow performance muffler.

Is it possibly too big? Should there be a step down post header?

By the way my stock intake will clear the header thank god, and I plan to bolt the steel heat plate back on the intake manifold to seal that up.

After checking further I see ddgonzal has a good exhaust article in the tech section, filed under carburators.

I am still curious if there will be any negative effects from too large of a pipe.

Even on a stock A14 a system that size will be fine. There is the potential issue of a loss of back pressure but I have never had that happen on a standard A series with a big exhaust. In fact advice I received last year from a noted A series tuner stated that the motors respond very well to a size pipe I used to associate with V8's.

OK, I ripped out the stock manifolds and replaced them with a second clean intake manifold, and the header.

I am worried that the colder climate here might me a pain with no direct contact between the manifolds now so I left the heat shields out to try to let the heat rise.

Is there any other problems that I might encounter by leaving these pieces out or am I ok?

The 2.5" pipe and muffler is going in tomorrow unless I get some solid discussion against a large pipe.

So far I have only recieved 1 positive and 1 negative response about this so hopefully I can decide in the next 10 hours.

2.5" pipe is in, had to go under the back axle but it still is higher than the diff and spring seat.

I now have mini stalls which is probably due to loss of back pressure. only when I stomp on the gas from idle. Which unfortunatly is all of the time.

thanks for all your input everone, er 1 person rather.
