Hey Lads and Ladies'
I am doing and SR20 upgrade and need some advice on ECU with bang for you buck installs.
The engine will be used for 100% racing only.
I have a few options with the motor.

Option 1 Keep motor completely stock just a bit of head porting with 4-2-1 extractors.

Option 2 Head porting with step 1 cams 10.5mm lift and 264 degree duration on inlet and 10mm lift and 257 degree duration on exhaust.

Option 3 Head porting with step 3 cams 12.0mm lift and 272 degree duration on inlet and 11.5mm lift and 272 degree duration on exhaust. Adj cam gear and springs rocker retainers etc etc.

All 3 options will have stock but balanced bottom end

Also all 3 options will run with SR20 EFI Hardware 48mm quad throttle bodies as I have just bought them......

The options at the moment are:-
Autronic SM-4 with loom $2000
Haltec EX6 with loom $1100
Motec M400 no pricing as yet
Microtech MT-8 $1300 with controller
Hawk EC21 EMS $1300

Any suggestions please..........

In all honesty I would be talking to the boys a Uni Group ( if they are the intended tuners) and see what one they are more happy to tune on.

hmm in my opinion go for the autronic
if you are racing then there is only two choices really
the autronic or the motec as they both have a full logging facility which is really good for watching whats going on after a few laps.
the haltech has logging too but it is pretty rough compared
the motec would be better if you want to add on things like suspension travels and g force but this is starting to look like a lot of money
(like a real lot of money)

i have wired setup and tuned about 6 autronics and stuffed around on microtech and ems. i have looked at the programs for the haltechs and motecs but not tuned either.
also i think the uni group guys like the autronic too (when i was there for the nats anyway)
my opinion

Craig I would also talk to the guys at uni group about ECU. As for engine I would go for option one for the time being balanced bottom end with port work quad throtle boddies ect. Later down the track once its all sorted you can bolt on some go faster goodies like cams rocker stoppers ect.
Was just reading up about the new SM4 its got heaps of features If you can get it for $2k would be a reasonable buy plus if you want to go variable cams later on it will control them
Cheers AndrewSM4 details

Dont forget to look at Adaptronic
It has just as many features at the motech, but cheaper.
Included in those features is self tuning with narrow band or wide band oxygen sensor, ignition or fuel rev limit, rev limit for temp, boost etc. waste gate, flat shift, NOS control, Data logging and the list goes on.
Go read up on the site its worth it.

hadnt seen that one before but it looks good
be wary of saying it "has all the features of motec" because motec is infinatley upgradeable and can do anything so its features are limitless. but yes it is a lot cheaper. i wonder how it goes on the ignition output side of things cos this can be an area of worry with nissan coil packs especially if they are running at double the duty (wasted spark).
i like tables of values rather then graphs.
looks good though i would like to mess with one

Thanks guys, from what youre saying Andrew is get the stock motor going with good bolt ons and then go the go fast stuff down the track??? I spose if I get the porting done now I can always bolt on the cams whenever I fancy....whilst the motor is still in the car.

If your budget can cope, get MOTEC.
