hey, i have been looking around the last couple of weeks for a set of springs to make the front ride harder, i can get a set of after market performance springs easily enough, but i was
wondering what my options were, i remember someone saying before that a set from a Fairlady 300ZX will fit, which 300ZX the early one or a later one? will i have to cut them much? i dont
really want to go lower as i have to use back roads quite often, and i dont really want to loose my exhaust system, oh yeah :) ive got a 2" single freeflow muffler system now, made a bit of
difference, but the passenger can feel the heat from the freeflow headers as they collect under their feet, cool stuff, im going to have to put some of that kale wool stuff that is the best
stuff, you can put an oxy-acetylene torch at full noise on one side and hold the other side and not feel the heat, and the stuff is less than an inch thick, so that might be the go, oh yeah,
so if anyone has any ideas on the springs it would be much appreciated, oh yeah, i got another rocker cover the other day... ;)

man im cranking SevenDust at the moment, they are the hard core.

I wouldnt recomend that heat wrap stuff. It makes the metal brittle on your extractors and can crack. As for the springs, i wouldnt have a clue. Im looking for some lowered
springs myself at the moment!

Chris
On my first Datsun 1200, I replaced the strut oil with a thicker oil and that stiffened up the front struts a lot. That doesn't work with inserts though. I hate the inserts because they
are too soft and they don't last very long either. Maybe where you are, good inserts are available but until a couple of years ago no struts or inserts were available here at all or at
least I could never find any. I parked the car for a few years because it was dangerous to drive without any damping at all in the front. I finally found some soft Monroe inserts. I do not
like them at all.

datsun 240z front springs are the same dia. as stock 1200 springs. You do need to cut them but i don't remember how much.
MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL

nah man its not a wrap, its like cotten wool, they use it in the leading edges on space shuttles for re-entry, i dont want to wrap the extractors, just insulate the passenger foot well
uinder the carpet and stuff.
do they crack with the heat wrap from lack of cooling? im not worried about leaving the manifold exposed in the engine bay as i run cold air for the intake, so it gets it from the outside
anyways. Repco here sells these cobra(i think) springs that are stiffer and lower than standard, they are finished nice, and quite a few cars like commodores and subaru's and stuff run them,
if you wanted i could price a set through work and get two sets at once, i might go in this afternoon.
sevendust are real heavy, but not really metal, i dunno its hard to explain, they kick, yeah check them out if you get a chance for a listen.
too much.
choice from chris.
Happy Boxing Day!!!!!!! cher cher!

I've got two sets of slotted mag wheels: 13" and 14" my 1200 has been lowered in the front and has a stiff suspension. The only tire I've found that doesn't rub on stock front fenders with
this setup is a 175-50-13. I don't know how much backspacing they have, they stick out a little further than most wheels, I think they're off a Z. I tried 185/60-14's but because they were
taller and the rims don't have the right backspacing, they rubbed on the outside. I would love to fit some 15 or 16 inch wheels on the 1200, I think that'd look sweet. I think you'd have
to have like a 50 or 45 or 40 series for that to work as long as you cleared the fenders on a lowered suspension. Ugh...tires/wheels are such a pain!

Just use Kingspring Lows. They are a sensible height and are legal where as cutting springs is not! Plus you are a role model for NZ youth so you need to do the right thing - even
if you listen to SevenDust....

Yeah i know the stuff. I see it all the time at work under new cars and stuff. The metal will crystilize if u heat wrap it. The heat has to go somewhere but it cant escape anywhere except
out the ass end. So the metal heats up more than normal and then cools down when stoped. Im sure you can get away with it for quite a while and not have any probs buts its not recomended
by our work. As u said, if u dont want hot air in your engine bay, make a cold air induction system. "heavy" and "metal" are not my kinda tunes. Im a Techno nut :)

hey man, nah the stuff im talkin about isnt a wrap, it comes in sheets about 3/4inch, and is like cotten wool, its white too, ive felt a kiln lined with the stuff, it was at about 400
degrees(c) inside, and the out side you could touch, like hardly warm, and all that was between the outside metal box and the heat was some of that kale wool stuff, i tried burning the
stuff with an oxy-acetylene torch and it wouldnt burn and the bench underneath wasnt even warm, man it seems to be the stuff. it got me excited.
my exhaust has the collector bit where the four pipes join right under the passengers feet, which at the moment, means their feet get a bit warm, and if i have to stop at a stop sign after
a big run their feet get more than a bit warm, ;) so yeah im gonna chuck a bit of that stuff under the carpet on that side to keep it all nice, i sprayed that whole foot well the day before
yesterday with sound deadner, to see if it would quiten the sound of the gasses going through the pipe, it worked a little bit but really wasnt worth it, yeah so with the exhaust the
headers and the induction there is still not much hope of holding a converstaion with my girl while we are driving :) oh yeah, get this, i just got a vacume guage, and it is magnifying the
sound of everything in the intake manifold, which is getting annoying, anyone else have this problem?
choice from chris.
oh yeah :) its not "heavy metal" :P they are just real heavy, yeah... :) ive been to a few techno rave things, but i always get pissed off at the dude cranking the sounds cause i cant stand
half the stuff, one time this suck ass dude played the same stuff for about 40mins, man that ripped.
nah, give me a hardcore cranking punk mosh any day.
sweet! cher.
