qld laws are changing an SR20DET could be engineered in but they classed it as an ICV (individually constructed vehicle) so they test everything fro mbrwaking to steering as your basically saying you've made this car from scratch. But they are even cancelling that. although I've heard of some people registering their SR20DET's as an SR16DET (I never even knew it existed). 12A should be right in a 1200 but, have you talked to Mazfix?? They should be able to hook you up with everything and even mod plate it for you.

Cheers
Damo

demo is right, you used to be able to engineer an SR20DET but I believe the largest capacity now is the 1875cc must be why the CA18DET is so popular.

dont know how they compare 12A's to "CC's" so cant help there. but ifts cosidered to be larger the the 1875cc that might the poblem

hope this helps

Rotaries are classed as double their swept volume, so a 12A is 2.4L and therefore about 0.3L too big. I have just had a chat with the liscencing mob over here in WA and they are in the process of getting uniform guidelines accross the country. QLD used to be a bit more relaxed than some of the other states, (judging by the cars you see with QLD plates) so there is a good chance that things you could do a few years ago up there you wont be able to do in the near future.

They gave me 4Mb of zipped PDF's on it all but the rules for engine size are supposedly going to be:
for NA: car dry weight in kgs x 3.0 = max displacement in cc's

for turbo or s/c dry wt in kgs x 2.5 = max displacement in cc's

I think this is what they use in vic & NSW already- can anyone confirm?

The Irony of it is that I know of a SR20DET converted car that came over from SA and was registered legally here a month or two ago.

Methinks it all depends if the inspector is on his period or not

As for the people with Legally registered large capacity datto's- Congratulations, your cars are going to remain unique and you will be able to name your price
