This is something someone might be interested in for a future engine swap.
Ive finally gathered enough info on them.
Used in speedway the scat v4 could be bought as a v8 cast without the middle 4 cylinders and same goes for head and using custom crank and cam.
However some other people went the cheaper route and cut a v8 in halve using better than scat heads (dart) and had the same reliability and weight as the cast alloy version. However I dont know how they do this except they cut a special alloy speedway 372cui block in halve and reinforce it somehow to accept the other ancillaries that go at the front (eg timing case). Does anyone know how this is done?
The beauty of these buggers is that once you have got the engine setup. Parts are the cheapest of any other engine and straight off the shelve. Here are some pics and links...enjoy, d.

The engine has done approximately 10 race meetings since it was rebuilt.
It is still in the midget chassis but we are pulling it out next weekend.
It was originally built by Chris Stewart at BERCO Engineering in Canberra
from a cut down 372 ci sprint car engine.
It runs on methanol with Hilbourn fuel injection, Brodex dash 12 heads, JE
pistons, Corillo rods, Scat crank and cam, Jessel roller rockers and rev
kit, Vertex V8 type magnito, Barnes oil pump and was run on the dyno with
12:1 compression, 295 hp and 268 lbs of torque at 7800rpm. Most of the
internals are small block Chev or are interchangeable with small block Chev
stuff.
We have a spare exhaust system and muffler, rings, bearings and valve
springs and some gaskets to go with the engine.
The engine above is 5000au with everything including injection, dry sump oiling system and more.
The best thing is these engines sound like two harley engines together because of the crazy exhaust pulses.
