Hi all,
I just bought a datsun 1979 sunny sedan and as far as i know this model is also known as a 1200. Im using the car as a paddock basher and it was running fine up until I replaced the carby on it as the other one was cracked. The new carby works but the idle was reving high. I have also had trouble with batteries as i hit a stump and the battery was flung lose and was sliced open by the fan. The battery still worked but leaked and did'nt hold its charge unless the car was running. The car was left for about a week without being touched and now when i try to start it with a new battery it turns over but it doesnt seem to be firing.

could someone please give me some assistance with my problem

NRMA is your best bet. I personally dont touch modified cars.

The replacement carby was the same type as the original. Could anyone tell me how to get the car going.

It is getting fuel into the system?
If you take one hign tension lead off the spark plug and hold above the spark plug can you see a spark?

There is a Gregory's manual....No.125 I think that has a good comprehensive troubleshooting guide for "Car wont start" failures.

If the engine is getting fuel, but not sparking - it is more than likely your ignition coil, or the distributor.

But as you may be able to tell from the level of repsonse diagnosing a won't start problem over the internet is tricky as it can be any number of things.

If you think through it logically you hopefully can find an answer.

You need fuel and you need spark to start with.

Look at what you have changed on the engine first...

i had the same problem with my A12 in the 1000.... i found there was no fuel going into the system so i changed the fuel pump and it turns over now... still needa tune the bloody thing tho (back fires from carbie)....you could try getting the Gregory manual No. 195 (1979-81 Datsun sunny's)
