Because an A15 is greater than 20% increase in capacity, you cannot call the conversion a "self certified" modification.

A15 300/1200 = 0.25 x 100 = 25%
A14 200/1200 = 0.16 x 100 = 16%

In NSW, you MUST get an engineers certificate for the A15 conversion. This would also require upgraded brakes.

Cheers,
Chris

Not the case over here (or at least 3 years ago it wasn't the case) My ute came with an A-15 and paperwork to match (offical change of engine number/engine capacity form) Without inspection. The guy wanted to do a rotary or 4ag conversion but decided against in favour of a A15 because those other options had to be inspected. Things may have chancged now though.

BTW did you see the 1000 in the paper a couple of weeks ago? Had an A-15 and recently rebuilt 5speed in it all for $1500 Even if the car was knackered it would be worth it for the drivetrain! If only I had enough room for another datto

I paid $1000 for my 1000 ute, with rebuilt a14, celica 5-speed and 180B for spares
Sold ute shell for $400, 180B for $450. So I got a rebuilt a14 and celica kit for $150
And I just got an a14 with twin 40s etc for $60.

The weber legality is based on emissions laws.

Not clear what car you have for us to comment. Looks like you have a 1200 Ute so you might be post 1976.

Year model matters!

Australian Design Rule 27a (1976), look on compliance plate.
