Hey all,

Has anyone bought a crank pulley puller (to make it possible to remove the crank pulley once the engine is out of the car.)

I had a look through the Kincrome catalouge, doesn't seem to have much for me.

Seen a few three pin 'harmonic balancer' pullers out there but the A14 has only 2 holes in the pulley.

Any thoughts?

I'll be off shopping tomorrow for one, would like to be a bit better informed by then.

Regards,

I haven't pulled one off my 1200, but I do have two A14 motors that I have removed the pulleys from.

I did it by prying with two screwdrivers at the same time. Believe it or not, this is from the Datsun manual. My 1200 manual also says the same thing, but they recommend using two tyre levers.

It does come off with two big screw drivers or two tire levers I did two in about 10 min.

The proper tool for the job would be a two, or three legged gear puller. A good one will run into some serious $$$$ though.

So I went shopping this morning...

Seems a harmonic balancer puller / pulley puller isn't the answer to my problems...

I'm having trouble getting out the crank pulley bolt, I assume once that is undone the puley should come off fairly easily.

I'm just going to have to hit the breaker bar with a hammer, as if I try to turn the crank pulley bolt the whole crankshaft just goes around and around.

I imagine if I had a rattle gun life might be a bit easier.

Here's what I mean

I saw the 2 holes in the pulley and thought...hmmm maybe I can stop the pulley turning by putting something in thoses little holes either side of the crank pulley bolt....so I thought maybe someone else had thought of this and had made a tool I could buy, but I guess I was wrong.

I think now a short sharp wrap on the breaker bar with a hammer will loosen this bolt....anyone got a better idea (that doesn't involve me buying an air compressor and a rattle gun)

If you still have the flywheel on you can lock that end and a sharp tap will remove the crank bolt.

I just take the oil pan off and get another breaker bar or hardwood or metal pole and jam it between the crank and side of the block, spray all surfaces of the crank nut and pulley with a lubricating spray like INOX, WD40 etc then use the breaker bar on the nut (27mm i think)
WACK or use your manly pure grunt and undo...

Thats what i do anyway, using screwdrivers dents and damages the pulley and timing cover.

Is this what you wanted?

Dave
