Hi

I checked my timing today and it was way advance so adjusted it but the distributor is all the way to the left driver side position or counter clockwise (retarded position) and the timing is still on 10 deg
do I have to remove the distributor and install it again?

Cheers

in my workshop manual you have to have the vacume advanced pluged off. but i think thats for higher revs (nythin more than idle) any one correct me? maby your idel is to high and the vacume advance is advancing/retarding it.

Have you used both adjusting screws? There are two, a 10mm one adjusting plate - block, and 8mm dizzy to adjuster plate.

only try a new resistor they only cost 3 buks...now i think of it not a bad idea go get one :P and make sure your points are correctrly adjusted s that effects timing..

Are you serious dude

Sounds like the dissy has been installed one tooth too far.

I think phunk is correct.
Make sure the engine is on TDC, then turn the motor( using a spanner on the crankshaft pulley bolt ) anti-clockwise then clockwise to line up your timing mark to the desired setting ( probably 6deg ).
This will place your rotor button in the No:1 firing position.
Now remove your dizzy-cap and see where the position of No:1 spark plug lead is. This then should tell you if your dizzy is incorrectly installed.
If so it`s only a matter of removing & installing the distributor until it all lines up !

Have you confirmed that the 8mm bolt hiding underneath (that allows plate to move further again) is actually at its fullest adjustment?

There's loads of movement with that slackened off too.

Sounds like you're only doing the main 10mm bolt that locks the plate to the block rather than also moving the 8mm bolt that holds the plate to the dissy.

will try to re-install the distributor
before when I was adjusting the timing I was pretty sure the rotor was facing #1 cylinder and piston was on TDC
anyway will try again...

britishcarfreak I'm pretty sure the dizzy is all the way turned to retard position its very obvious.

Cheers
