Hey there guys, I have been thinking about this for past few months as many machanics have metioned it might be a good idea to have my 1000 apprasied and valued. As it stands right now, if it was to be totaled my insurence company will look up 1970 1000 in their little computer and give me 400 dollars . I also have been told that to get a apprasial will cost a good chunk of cash , futhermore it would jack up the price of my yearly insurence rate.

So my question is, what do you guys think is a fair amount to be compensated if it was ever totaled ? I ask this because if it isent of a great value it woudent be worth the cost of appraisal + the extra insurence I would have to pay every year . What do you guys think I shoudl do?

I live in Canada Bc, if that helps
Thanks

HEy sub go the appraisal. If you were ever have it stolen or damaged you would get better money for it. over hear the insurance is called agreed value and keep all reciets you have for the carsexpediture the insurance should give you more bang for buck if you can prove what youve spent on it .Watch them though each insurance companies have different rates and values
shop around im sure youll find a good one for your datto
1200.com should start an ofshore insurance company to insure datsuns around the world (uwish i wish we all wish together) best of luck

Do a quick appraisal for yourself.

Is the Datsun 1000 a common car in Canada?
Could you easily replace it if it were lost? [writen off]
Is it a depreciating asset, or an appreciating one?
How important is this car to YOU?
Is it historicly significant as far as Datsun cars go in Canada?
Will Datsun 1000's become even more historicly significant as time goes by?
Is that important to you or any other Datsun enthusiasts in Canada?

Once you have come up with answers to these & any other relevant questions, you can make an informed choice about having it insured for an agreed value or not.

Thanks, your correct I should go ahead with this path. The car has been stolen once in its history ( thank god they found it with only the Auto meter missing)

I dont think most people have ever seen one. The car means way to much to me and can never be replaced with anything. Not even a giant bag of money. I will have it apprasied and reinsured in 1 month.
Thanks guys

Very convienent convo. cause three days ago I was sitting at a red light and a Peterbuilt ( diesal truck ) bumped into me three times before I could get out and stop him. claims he didn't see me. Insurance co. is in the process of doing their thing ,,,,,but I looked up the value just for curiosity .(U.S.) value of a 72 Datsun 1200 coupe is 750.00 to 1150.00. does that sound fair when all you want is the car to be fixed back like it was? cause the it's gonna cost more to fix it than the book value is.....?

Sorry to say this hotrod but it sounds like the insurance will write it off .you will probably find which auctioneer it goes to to buy it back..what ive found with insurance
...Go agreed value .oh have you got insurance companies for car enthusiats ?
EXAMPLE : say in U.S.A you recieved $5000 agreed value for your datto ...and you have an accident and the insurance rights it off .
You now have 5000 cash and no datto
Remember alot of insurance companies right cars off due to age .parts availability ETC...
Why not goto the auctions and buy it back repair it and have cash left over for another datto project .....thats the best thing about agreed value insurance
Ive been to auctions in oz and seen datto go for $20 due to the fact no one there wants it and the only people i find bidding on them are scrap metal merchant and they dont want to pay more than $30-50 a car ..

Get agreed value and automatic wreck recovery. Don't accept anything less. I expect there are less than one hundred 1000s in Canada.

Insurance is not a bad idea. But a stock car with little investment into it, is not worth some massive amount. It's worth what you'd pay to get another one in similar condition....or enough to go have a nice holiday to forget about the accident or theft.

'Over-insurance' will end up costing you. The car becomes an annual financial liability, so you need to weight that up too.

Chris

Not gonna let my 1200 go anywhere!!!! they tried to write it off as totaled .There is only a left side tailight assy. and busted DATSUN logo in the center, & a BIG dent in the center rear panel.I had to settle for $415.?? (U.S. ) or total her. I just couldn't see it so give me the money and I'll fork the rest
