Have swapped motors, from a12 to a15! a15 motor has electronic distribuiter, a12 had points distributer! Hence I have to bypass ballist resistor! Question is will the original bocsh coil that was powereing the points distributer (12v) be ok to power the a15 electronic distributer???or do I need to buy a coil that suits an electronic distributer? If so which cars do they come off??

Yes you do have to change the coil, i'm running an N13 electronic dizzy with the bottom gear modified to suit.
Is this what you have?????
From memory the only coil to suit this application was a BOSCH coil off a bluebird? i think?
try and find out what sort it is first.

You will need a 12V coil.
You could test that it is all going to work with the standard coil first.

Does the dizzy use an external ignitor module? Do you have it?

Look for a coil off a VL commodore.

The dizzy was already on the motor and came out of a vanette, so Im not sure if its aftermarket, or if vanettes come out with electronic dizzys!

Another problem I have is that I need to find a coil that has a female plug so the lead fits! Most electronic coils have the male plug, don't they??

It runs with the standard coil and the ballsit resistor still conected (I was told this can damage the module inside the distributer). Does a VL coil have a male or female plug???

Your distributor sounds like a stock unit
which came with the car. The ignitor is usually
built inside the distributor.

If so, it is probably the capacitive discharge type,
and will need an "electronic" type coil suited to
electronic ignition systems.

In Malaysia, you can usually buy this at spare parts
shops, under the "Diamond" brand. I think it is
used without a ballast resistor.

The VL coil has the same fittings as the standard unit.
