For those with experience will my brand new mechanical pump cope with the twin webered 8000rpm new engine going into the sedan shortly which is purely built for race. I know some would have to say no but i couldnt possiby see an engine starv with the amount of fuel even a mechanical pumps. The tank would be empty in 5minutes if it could use all that fuel.

So whats the go. Mechanical suitable or electric a must?

Cheers
Daniel

I say go with what you got & give the mechanical pump a go. I believe that it will work just fine. Wory about an electric pump only if you find problems with the mechanical one, but otherwise, use it.

howdy freak
don't know how much of a "race" engiie you're building but my lowly A12 will hit 8000rpm with out too much trouble and only runs the standard pump, allbeit a new one, and according to the guys that tuned it and ran it on the dyno she don't run out'a fuel at all
both proper engines i've had, i've run with twin 40's, and both have run standard fuel pump without a drama

....... someone will correct me, no doubt, if it is essential to run a bigger or electric pump but i'll keep it a secret from my little donk for fear of her suddenly developing fuel problems

give it a go before you rush out to spend $$$$ that may not be needed

ps .... the bodywork looks like its coming along well

Thanks for the quick replys. I just needed abit of reassurane. Cheers boofhead about the comment. She is getting there slowly but surely. Lets just say the engine been built is going to be nearly as good as it can be running premuim unleaded and without crazyness like knife edging etc. I hope to make a competitive car out of it and mainly just have fun.

Cheers
Daniel

you want competitive ... keep the engine simple and spend $$$ on stopping and turning the little A series will struggle to have the torque and hp of bigger cc's (unless of course you manage to fluke one of those extreme horse A series engines we sometimes get to read about ) but if you can keep the power on and the brakes off when not really needed, you'll fly through the twisty stuff like its not even there

Dont have to worry about engine $$$. My uncle and cousin are engine reconditioners. Cost me $400 last time for a full rebuild. So even this should come in very cheap compared to what others pay. Brakes are stanzas with good pads, suspension is 2" lowered king springs, pedders inserts/shocks and extra leaf/retempered/2" lower rear springs with 195/50s sticking it to the road. It will be developed from there but thats my base setup.

yeah both work great, but I found that you need to run a regulator inbetween the pump and the webers and have it set to around 1.5PSI.
These little things are like $50 from Jeff Taylor 96238826 in Sydney.

When im at the wreckers i always run down the european cars isle, alfa's with dellortos have malpassi regs, with a inbuilt filter, I tell the u-pull-it guy its just a fancy fuel filter, normally lets them go for $5 - bargain! New filter elements from alfa places are around $10.
